Industry: FinTech, Payments
Business Model: SaaS

Size of Round: $200M

Year: 2012

Block (formerly known as Square) is a B2B software payments platform and hardware company for small to medium-sized businesses. In short, Block provides a payments solutions for these companies to easily and securely take accept credit card payments and use smartphone or tablet computers as payment registers for a point of sale system.
This pitch deck is allegedly a deck that was designed to be used for the company’s Series C fundraising in 2011-2012, but there has been debate about the true authorship of the slides in this deck. There have also been claims that this pitch deck was created by students a UC Berkeley as part of a school project. That has not been verified, and Block (which is notoriously private about its corporate materials) isn’t saying.
In any case, though, whatever this authorship, this pitch deck is still an excellent example of a deck which has to present and explain a complicated business, one that integrates both software and hardware as well as Fintech.
